![]() ![]() Many of the earlier retired bearstones are very collectable and already sell for many times there original purchase price. Who would have thought a tax collecting bear would be popular? The bearstone also evoke a great deal of humour, such as Otis the Tax Collector. Many of the bears appear in several pieces, giving them more character. The bearstones include Christmas ornaments, waterballs, and bears and friends in various scenes. The Boyds Collection of plush teddies had long been popular with teddy bear collectors, and when the first resin bears appeared there was already a large market. The bears developed into Boyds bearstones in 1992, a line of resin bears which became one of the most popular collectables at the time. They began making and selling stuffed bears, and the bears became known as “Boyds Bears”. The first bear was a stuffed bear made for the couple’s newborn son, Matthew. In 1984 they began sculpting in resin, initially making a line of miniature houses called “The Gnomes Homes”. They ran a ‘small antique shop’ in rural Boyds, Maryland and began to make and sell antique reproductions, including a line of duck decoys. ENESCO acquired the brand to their portfolio in 2008, but the concept started some 25 years earlier in 1979 with Gary M. Everywhere you look is more stuff! This is one of her more detailed pieces and one has to wonder if its a "self portrait" of a busy Mom who decorates bears for a living! A great gift for a crafter, busy Mom or just as an addition to a collection! On top of the table are various craft supplies: a flower pot holding a paint brush, scraps of material, lace & ribbon, spools of thread, string of pearls, clothes pin with a lady bug sitting on top, a hand rake and more!! On the "floor" under and around the table are more craft supplies: a basket, scissors peeking out, a wooden block with the letter "L", a photo, a crumbled flyer "The Human side of High Performance", flowers, a snow covered tree on its side, etc. ![]() There is a "School Conference Appointment" Slip nearby. A fully jointed tiny brown bear standing on the table snuggled in his Mom's arm. This Momma bear can do it all! She is sitting at her rounded work table that is cluttered with her craft supplies and her handwritten "To Do" List that is so long it runs across the table and wraps around her back.
